The whole process was very quick and I was back in the office by 10.30am
Monday 7th Nov
Monday was a day off but I had quite an important appointment at the breast clinic in Burnley to check out a few bits and pieces. It's so important to get checked early as soon as you notice anything different ladies! I had an examination and a mammogram and thankfully everything was OK so no further tests needed but I was so glad I got checked over. The whole process was very quick and I was back in the office by 10.30am, ready to get started on our bookings for the week.
Tuesday 8th Nov
Back to it on Tuesday for Amity Lodge's meeting. One of the Freemason's was being initiated as a Master Mason, so quite an important night for him. As he is Romanian, he wanted to surprise his fellow masons with some traditional Romanian fayre so he brought in some Prune Tuica spirit for us to serve and some Sibiu Salami which we served with slices of white baguette and butter in traditional style before their dinner of carrot and coriander soup and cottage pie.
Congratulations to Bogdan who is now a Master Mason.
Wednesday 9th Nov
Wednesday was a truly busy day, kicking off with our lovely BNI Zeus regulars followed by a luncheon and AGM for Accrington and District Masonic Fellowship.
We then had a few hours before welcoming Perseverance Lodge for their Centenary Celebration. We had quite a few Grand Masters in attendance so it was a really special night. They dined on homemade roasted red pepper and tomato soup with a touch of coconut, fillet of haddock in a white wine and tarragon sauce followed by our gorgeous fudge brownies warmed up and served with vanilla ice cream. Yummy. There was plenty left over too, so all our serving and kitchen staff were very happy!
4 bottles of vodka!
Friday 11th Nov
We had a fantastic night on Friday 11th with a joint birthday party and actually went through 4 bottles of vodka! We ended the night with a stowaway in the ladies loos but it was all good in the end when her friends came back to take her home.
Saturday 12th Nov
Saturday was Katie's 21st birthday party and the colour scheme was glitter pink, silver and black. A very stylish balloon display at the entrance welcomed everyone in, to then be met with matching balloons on each table, banners and confetti. The menu was quite varied and included curries, pies and hot dogs - with doughnuts, brownies, cookies and cupcakes to follow.
The dancefloor was crowded and the DJ certainly played some “choooons” to get everyone up and moving!
A much anticipated and long awaited get together
Sunday 13th Nov
On Sunday afternoon we celebrated a joint 70th birthday for a wonderfully sweet couple who were surrounded by friends and family for this extra special milestone. Apparently the last party that was thrown in their honour was on their wedding day so it was a much anticipated and long awaited get together.
Monday 14th Nov
Monday 14th was the funeral of a much loved and well respected Freemason. Steve was really well known in Accrington and the surrounding areas for his paintings of seemingly 'normal' everyday situations - the bins in a backstreet or the towpath on the canal but he brought them to life and made them beautiful. He had many other interests and hobbies all of which were remembered and it was a fitting send off for a lovely man.
Prosperity Lodge had their monthly meeting on Monday night and dined on good old british bangers and mash, served up in true Mill House style with onion gravy.
Tuesday 15th Nov
Tuesday night welcomed the ladies into The Mill House with our second fashion show this year. Autumn vibes for this one with a new host - Dawn Rose Fashion based on the high street in Crawshawbooth. A selection of sparkly glitter tops for the party season and some lovely snug coats, coatigans, jumpers and tops teamed with beautiful scarves, necklaces and handbags. The obligatory 'magic pants' were a firm favourite with a few bagged for yours truly! Perfect for those 'over indulged sofa days off'!
A real gem and a lovely man
Thursday 17th Nov
Thursday 17th brought De Lacy back to The Mill House with the investiture of a real gem and a lovely man. No braised steak this time though - St David's Chicken was the order of the evening followed by sticky toffee pudding and custard.
Friday 18th Nov
Remembrance Lodge changed their usual meeting to come in this Friday instead and dined on carrot and coriander soup with sandwiches and fat, skin-on chips. Looking good there gents!
As well as this, we had a touch of private dining for our lovely Imogen for her birthday too, with a Mexican theme!
Saturday 19th Nov
We welcomed the ladies back in on Saturday evening for Albert Edward Lodge Ladies Evening with LeeAnn James who sang Country and Rock and Roll providing the entertainment like last year. She's amazing and even got the lads toe tapping, shoulder shaking and strutting their funky stuff on the dance floor! Well done that girl!
Monday 21st Nov
Monday brought St Aidan dining on vegetable soup, sandwiches and chunky skin on chips. All looking very dapper in their masonry regalia.
A final farewell
Wednesday 23rd Nov
Wednesday welcomed Audrey's friends and family to The Mill House to celebrate this lovely lady. 80 portions of meat & potato and cheese & onion pie were made in readiness. The sun came out in between the rain clouds to say a final farewell.
Thursday 24th Nov
Albert Edward were back in again on Thursday 24th for their monthly meeting and requested cottage pie with Imogen's homemade triple chocolate brownies for dessert - gently warmed through and served with vanilla ice cream. Please excuse me for a moment while I go and finish them off with a cup of tea!
Saturday 26th Nov
The last meeting of the month was for Verity, who meet on Saturday mornings and along with their 100 year old tradition, dined on French onion soup and meat and potato pie (a couple of cheese pies too).
As well as all the fun stuff, we also have to deal with the practicalities. So 1st Choice Alarms in Clayton le Moors sent two lads round this month to beef up our fire systems and check the intruder alarms so we're all compliant and good to go for another year!
We took a much needed break at the end of the month before we take a deep breath and dive into the December party season!
